We had a hen go missing for a while. Showed up yesterday morning with 3 chicks in tow!!
She has one nasty wound on her back and maggots are in it. What can I do for her? We put rubbing alcohol on it hoping that would kill some. Then we put peroxide on it. That made the maggots scatter in all directions. We alternated running water and peroxide over it trying to irrigate them out. Once I could see no more wiggling around I covered the area with antibiotic ointment hoping that would deter any more eggs being laid in the meat.
Did I do the right thing? Is there anything else I can do for her? How can I know if I got them all? I'm worried they are way down inside her and are going to eat her to death.
Any advice? THANKS!
