Hello, I am new to this whole chicken thing and have had chickens since March, I think they have some kind of upper respiratory infection because I had one pass today and another one that is on its way out. They are wheezy sounding. The few of them their combs are not that pretty bright red color. I need help on what to give them all for whatever upper respiratory I am dealing with! Fast please! I don’t want to loose anyone else.

I'm am so sorry!

1) Is a vet an option? If you can find out what one has, you will know what you're dealing with. Or can you send the one you lost today for a necropsy??? Those are very helpful and can give you lots of insight.

2) Are their eyes clear or are they bubbly?

3) Have you looked in their beaks to see if there is anything in them (mucus or a canker)?

It sounds like you are dealing with a chronic respiratory disease. Those last for life usually, and make the whole flock carriers. Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) infectious bronchitis, coryza, and ILT are a few of the common ones.

Did you get your chicks from a hatchery or buy birds from a breeder or other person? If you lose another bird, keep the body cold, and call your state vet to schedule a necropsy to find out what disease you are dealing with. That way, you can know what antibiotic, if any will help, and you can close your flock to new birds. Never give away or rehome birds in a flock with a respiratory disease. Here is a list of state vets to contact for necropsies:

How old are they?
Have you noticed any respiratory symptoms all year?
Any changes to their environment - new birds added, coop closed up tightly for winter, strong ammonia odor in the coop, new feed changes, mold/mildew, etc.?
