After having my chickens for over a year, I noticed this morning two white worms in a patch of very runny, diarrrhea-like hen poop. They were not moving.

Here is what the worms look like: round and white, with a small black dot on its head, and is semi transparent, about a half to three quarters of an inch long, and maybe the thickness of a pencil lead.

On another topic, readers identified this as a maggot, but I really think this is some kind of worm as it is in fresh poop and all birds are (seemingly) healthy with no injuries.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of parasite?
What do I do?

Thanks,
Danni

-If you see a worm in the poo then it means that your chickens have a heavy worm load. Worm first with Warzine. This kills a lot of the worms but not all. Two weeks later worm with ivermectin. It is a cattle wormer, blue in color. This wormer will kill the remaining worms.

As much as you want to you can go straight to the ivermectin because it will kill so many worms at one time it will clog up the chickens digestive tract and possibly kill them.

Both products can be purchased at most feed stores.

The worms are robbing your chickens of nutrients so you want to up their nutrition by adding greens and a small amount of treats. Corn on the cob, watermelon rinds, tomatoes, broccoli etc.
