Help needed, dead chick

Hi bought a bunch of orphingtons and sussex chicks last Sunday. Ages are a bit mixed, I think they start at about 5 weeks. All were off heat and were roaming free. They seemed pretty healthy, the adult birds in the pens seemed healthy too. I found one dying on the ground this morning, with a bit of blood around the vent, only a smidge though. No signs of trauma or injuries. It died a couple of minutes after I found it. A second chick had a tiny bit of blood from its vent and was a bit sluggish too. Again no signs of injury. I've separated it from the others.

I've wormed them all and they are fed on good quality feed. Does anyone have any idea of what it could be? It's summer where I am and we have had some fairly hot weather.

Sorry you're having to deal with losing your birds. Do they feel thin, underweight, puffed up, lethargic, eating &/or drinking?
Coccidia can take a bird/birds pretty quickly, what does the poop in the coop or under roost look like. Do you have any Corid on hand?

And Corid will most likely be named something else in that location. Amprolium is what the OP needs.

If the chicks are with older birds they may be getting pecked. Vent pecking can lead to vent damage later on or cannibalism. Can you give some details or possibly post pictures of your setup, such as how many birds in how much room? What are they fed? Do they have any symptoms of coccidiosis, such as lethargy, not eating, looking hunched or puffed up, with runny poops? Coccidiosis is treated with amprollium, and in some countries, it comes from a vet. Coxoid is a brand that may be available without a vet.

I’d probably treat for coccidiosis I had a rough time with it in my spring/summer chicks.

I'll grab some stuff for cocciodosis and treat them for that. I didn't see any abnormal poops in the run but it's a decent size so there may be some that I can't see. They aren't in with older chickens, they're in my nursery run with chicks just they're own age. I'm not there at the moment so can't double check the run for poop just yet.
