I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s going on with my Bantam Rhode Island Red hen. A few weeks ago, she started having green poop, and shortly after that, I noticed her eyes became enlarged. Since then, she has gone completely downhill.

I’ve isolated her from the rest of my chickens, and none of my other hens have shown similar symptoms. I’ve used Vetrx on her, but I’m not sure if it’s making a difference. Unfortunately, I don’t have a vet in my area, so I’m unsure of what to do next.

Here are some pictures of her symptoms. If anyone has any ideas or has dealt with something similar, I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Welcome To BYC

Where are you located in the world?

Is she new to you or have you added new birds within the last 30days?

It looks to me like she has an eye infection, it may be due to respiratory disease, hard to know.

General Care is to flush the eye with saline, press out the pus that is in her eyes, then put Terramycin Eye Ointment into the eye. Flush and apply ointment at least 2X a day, press out the pus a needed, you may have to do this over the course of several days.

Is there a bad odor about her face or do you see any lesions or cankers inside the beak?

You may need an antibiotic to help with symptoms, but which one depends on what you are dealing with Tylosin will treat symptoms of Mycoplasma, but if she has a bad odor, then she may have Coryza which would require a sulfa antibiotic.

Keep her bottom washed up the best you can and keep flies away from her.

Since her eyes are swollen shut, you need to ensure she's getting fluids and nutrition. This can be done through crop or syringe feeding. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/crop-feeding.75454/
