I am on my 16th days on my chicken egg incubation. I need to know how i should position the eggs before the lock down. Right now all the eggs are on top of a wire mesh basket, all in different positions. Please help.

Thanks

There are about as many opinions about lockdown as there are members!

Personally, I put down a breathable shelf liner.. (bought it at Wal-Mart)

Then I cut the bottoms out of egg cartons and place the eggs pointy end down. I believe it makes it easier for the chick and it makes it so that they aren't playing soccer with the other eggs when the early ones hatch out.

Some folks think they should be on their sides like they are under the hen, BUT under the hen they are usually depressed down into hay, straw and/or shavings so that they are stable and can't roll.

I like the egg carton method. It works for me.

Thank you Mahonri for your feedback. I will take up on your ideas when I get home from work.
