I have a broody who is sitting on eggs, some from 2 weeks ago and some she has stolen from about five days ago. I had intended to candle to see if I could determine which are the earlier batch. However, I have candled and although I can't see inside some of the darker eggs, the rest looked empty. I took them in and cracked them open and this is what I found.

Now I am new to this but I am sure they are fertilised as I can see a bull's eye in some of them. Not sure about the quality of the photo - sorry. Can anyone tell me why they are not developing. Mama has been sitting all day and night only getting off once a day for food etc.

Help!

Don't think you can see anything on that photo. Here's another. It might not be any better.

When I clicked on the first pic, it was a little bigger but not good enough to really tell. Looks like some were progressing at 5 days but without knowing which are which, it's hard to tell.

It is hard to tell, but it looks like at least 3 were developing. See the red veining?

are you sure the other hens are not laying in with her on a daily basis?. some appear to be fresh laid and some around 3 day development. If she still has some eggs, mark them clearly and check daily for new additions:)

Thanks for replies.
Today I went in and there was an egg laid in an empty nest in a nesting cage - so yes you are right - the little buggers are sneaking in and laying. Hmmph!
I have marked all the eggs she has left so fingers crossed.

It can be hard to see development before about day 10, so be patient. Now that your eggs are marked, you'll be able to pull out any new ones that would confuse the issue.
