Hi all first time poster here so hoping I've done it right, my Muscovy mama ducks eggs started to externally pip yesterday, this morning when checking I noticed one of the eggs was broken on the side and could see the membrane, mama duck has pecked the membrane and caused bleeding, she also had thrown the egg out of the nest, it's my first time dealing with hatching so wasn't sure what to do, I put egg back in nest but 15 minutes later is was back on the floor of coop, I took the egg and piped it in the incubator, bleeding has stopped fingers crossed duckling is OK, anyway I went back to check on mama duck and she had done the same with another egg, again I thought to give her a chance but she because she had only broken the egg she'll and there wasn't any bleeding......well she's now pulled at the membrane of not only the 2nd egg but also done a 3rd so I've put them into the incubator and also another 3 that had externally pipped so she wasn't able to do it to them too, she's still got 2 eggs under her, she has been fantastic and done a brilliant job up to now. I hope I've made sense and sorry for the long post, hoping that someone could help with if the ducklings survive can i put the ducklings back under mama once they have hatched or is she not meant to be a mama and just likes to sit.Was she trying to hurt the ducklings or help them out? They clearly weren't ready to come out yet as veins haven't dried/absorbed up. I'm so worried that she might hurt the ducklings. Thank you

How are your ducklings? Usually muscovy are great moms. I don't know if they help the duckling hatch or not. I generally miss the process.

They are all doing great, 6 hatched and survived, I kept them at home in the brooder as mama kept hissing and pecking at them every time they went near her, I've read that Muscovy are brilliant mams so thinking that maybe she is just abit young as she is only a year old, she did go in a huff for a few days once she had no eggs left on her nest and wouldn't come out her house and even now today she is trying to pinch duck eggs and roll them to her nest.

1st time here with muscovy ducks....my 1st time mom also did this every one that started to peep she would take off the shell...and they died...but those eggs were not muscovy eggs...today I just found 2 peeping in the incubator and had to wet them down to get the shell off...just wondering if muscovy eggs need help and mom was doing what she thought she was supposed to do. ..i caught her today to start to take the shell off one so i quickly gave it to a broody chicken that has been co-parenting with another muscovy momma....that mom I didn't give babies till completely hatched from the incubator...soo if anyone knows if it's normal for muscovy ducks to remove the shell please let me know....if this is true I will not be able to let them sit on other ducks eggs
