Help, new to float test

I did a float test this morning on one of my eggs that is three days over due, it floated with about a 1/4 of the egg out of the water....is it still alive? will it hatch?

checked the egg today, it died, and i opened it up to be a fully developed chick that looked as if it drowned very sad day....
