Hello,

I'm Adrienne and pretty new to raising chickens. We have an established 8 months old flock of 6 Welsummer hens and 1 rooster, (lets call him A.)

We build a small coop next to our run (see attached photo) and have 9 week old Welsummer in there (4 hens, 2 roosters). They are next to each other since about 4 weeks. At 12 weeks we want to integrate them with the older ones. At the same time we want to take Rooster A out and replace with one of the new roosters.

What is the best way to go about it? When to take rooster A out and introduce the new one? When to put the hens together?

Both flocks free range some time of the day, but never together.

Thank you for your advice!

Hello Adrienne, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I would rehome the older cockerel now and let the two youngsters grow up with the older pullets teaching them the ropes. Then choose the better of the two cockerels to keep as your new flock rooster and rehome the other one. As long as you have enough space and enough clutter in their space you can start letting the younger flock intermingle with the original flock.
