Help, newly hatched chick with hurt leg!

Hello Big Mamma K,
I have not been online for a while... I hope everything is going okay.... Sorry to hear your little chickie passed, it happens. Try not to feel bad, you did the best you could and like the others said at least it got to be with Momma for the remainder. And now you have information if you ever have another like that again (hopefullly not). Ummm... about the chick hathching early... how is that going? I am not sure about what to do with a chick that hatched too early. If I remmember correctly the slimy stuff is the part that is absorbed through the belly of the chick, so I wouldn't remove it. It is it's food. Its been a couple of days since you last posted, so I hope all is well. Let us know, maybe someone else will know a little more.

CaliBlueChicken,

Sorry I haven't written you back, I have had problems with my interent staying connected! The early hatch chick is doing great!! Tomorrow it will be a week old! It is so little compaired to the other chicks but that could just be the breed too! I had my 5th egg hatch last night! And for some reason my chicks that have lived are 1,3 and 5! 2 and 4 didn't make it! 2 was the one with the leg problem and I found 4 dead in the nesting box. It was fully developed but really small...not sure what happened there!! But my chick today has the starts of wing feather...and it just hatched! So it has me wondering how long a chick can survive in it's egg!! My other two where several days old before their wing feathers started to come in! Plus it is as big as my 1 week 2 day old chick!!!
