Two of the three that hatched last week were the same way. They both pipped, but it was like their head/beak was positioned too low toward the middle of the egg and they couldn't get the zipping action going.
I intervened on the first one at 13 hours once I realized what was happening. It had been very vocal and responsive to my voice, but had slowed way down and responsiveness was very minimal. I hatched that baby. No blood, nothing....you could see on it's face it was glad to be out of it's shell.
The second one, pipped, then at about 10 hours later zipped itself right out. That's when I realized the first one had been positioned much lower in the egg and couldn't zip itself out.
The third one, almost a carbon copy of the first. Pipped, then at 12 hours I could tell it just couldn't "get" the zipping and was way low in the egg. It was so funny, as soon as I broke away some of the shell, it stuck it's leg out and held on to my finger with it's foot as I pulled away the rest of the shell. No blood, nothing....it's now the loudest and rowdiest of the three.
I am glad I intervened when I did and I'll do it again and again, if I feel it's needed.
