I have my first flock ever. They are 16.5 weeks. No eggs yet... My giants waddles are red, but not their little crown.. I've been reading does this mean they are ready to lay when they are completely red?? ? Also, mine are not splitting and finding their own nesting boxes yet... They still are sleeping with their kind. Any helpful hints?

Welcome to the world of chickens!

16 weeks is usually only for the best production breeds or hybrids, like Gold Stars or Leghorns. Some of the heritage breeds won't start laying until they are 24 weeks or so. The red comb is a good sign that they are preparing to lay.

Hope you get eggs soon!
