I have 4 hens that are around 6 months old. They are SOOOO noisy in the mornings! They just started laying about a week ago and I do hear the egg laying "song" before and after one lays and egg but also just a lot of other loud noises. Will they quiet down after a while?

some hens stop singing the "egg song" after a while... our two orps did it when they first started laying, but now they just go "BRUUP" when they lay an egg, then get up... our other hens( the daughters of those orps) however, want the whole world to know when they lay an egg, and even the roosters get roped in to announcer duty...

LOL! Not likely. You can try giving them treats to distract them, but some hens are just chatty things. It's funny when one hen will set off ALLLLLLL my flocks singing the egg song at the same time. Thankfully it doesn't happen often, but when it does it's really noisy and they go one for a long time.

Uh.... I hope so but mine are 1-1.5 years and I wake up at 6am every morning to sceaming (for some reason, the girls are loudest in the morn.) from my coop. When it first started, I thought, someone was being killed. I've tried everything! If I keep them locked in the coop, they scream; if I leave their door open to the run, they scream. They have plenty of fresh food and water available. I've resorted to running out, half asleep, with any yummy veggies I can find in the house to keep them occupied until at least 8am. I've given up on my sleep, but I don't want to have to deal with angry neighbors. I don't know what else to do. I live in a very congested area and my neighbors are close.... Do you have the same problem? I would also love to hear what anyone else has to say )

Well that's my problem too...neighbors bedroom window is right next to my chicken "yard". They say they don't hear them but... Gosh I hope they quiet down, I think my blood pressure goes way up when they are so noisy! It's always in the morning, too and I have done EXACTLY what you have done with the treats to the point where I really think they try to manipulate me into giving treats by being noisy. I love them, but...

Mine are loud also in the AM. the egg song isn't so bad when they are in the coop, but of course they must come outside and sing to the neighbors...and once the chickens start the dang duck must quack along...*sigh* the neighbors deserve some free eggs.
