Help (not super important but I need some help)

Hey all! I have a situation and I need help with it. So I have 4 ducks they are my world!! I love them so much! And I post them on social media (only with my family) and a family member of mine (that doesn’t live with us) keeps talking about how our ducks would taste good. They are encouraging me to eat my pets. How can I make them stop? I would never eat them. They are my babies. They are emotional support animals at least for me. They are my everything! This family member is close with our family so I can’t block them. I just need to make them stop. Sorry if this is not allowed but i need help with this.

There will always be that one person making hurtful comments, never fails. They obviously know how much you love them and are doing it because they likely find it funny. You can block them when posting your pictures or posts about the ducks and still remain friends. If they realize that they are blocked and bring it up, explain that you were tired of all the negativity about your pets. I’m a reformed vegan of 20 plus years so I have had tons of experience with that kind of behavior.

I've had the same experience with my guinea pigs. So many people mention "Y'know they eat guinea pigs in Peru? I bet they'd taste good!".

Usually they stop if you just say "Hey, these types of comments make me uncomfortable!"

I don’t know what you should tell them, but I totally agree with you, my birds are pets and emotional support only. Of course it’s nice if they lay eggs but I don’t really care if they do or don’t. I know some people raise them for meat, but it makes me sad. Anyway, I’m wishing you luck!

I talk to them a lot in person and they say the same thing! I was telling them about how I love duck eggs and they said “if you like duck eggs then you’ll definitely like to eat ducks.” It makes me so uncomfortable!! So I try to not talk about them when they are over.

Really? Aww I’m sorry to hear that. It’s not fun when people say things like this. Whether it’s a joke or not it’s not funny! And I’ll do that next time for sure. Thank you

I'd just explain, VERY clearly, that while you enjoy the eggs, you love them and they are your pets. If they have a pet, maybe say 'You wouldn't like to eat your dog would you?' to get them to understand. Say it makes you uncomfortable to hear that.
