Help! On day 18 and I think I will lose all 9 eggs!!! SMALL AIR SAC

*hugs I was reading up on this since I want to try and Hatch eggs early next year. I'm so sorry for what you had to go through. You're a very good chicken mama though. I am fostering kittens and one got really sick and needed to be injected with IV fluids to re-hydrate it and I couldn't bring myself to prick the poor thing with the needle and had to have my husband do it, it sucks when you feel like you're going to hurt a baby even if it is really helping it. You are very brave and clearly love your chickies very much. *hugs!

You did what had to be done. You did the right thing. Bless you and your little chick. Enjoy your other babies. You are a great momma!

Good morning. How are handling things this morning and how are the babies?
Good evening, I avoided this thread because I did not want to see the pics I had posted of the one I culled. I deleted them off my computer as well.

Doing great today,, the 7 babies are sooo cute!!!! I put my 2 Silkie 1 month old chicks in for just a few minutes with the day olds, OMG it was so funny, the newborns were very curious and kept trying to get closer to the 1 month olds,, the 1 month olds were SOOO Afraid of them and kept running, it was so cute.

But I am good, all is good, I really hope I don't have to cull a newborn like that again though,, but atleast I was able to do it. I talked to hubby about it and he just said that the "chicken thing" is mine,, he will help me build coops, help with fencing, make sure I have all supplies, but does not want anything to do with culling or butchering, etc.

I just added the 2 Silkie's that are 1 month old to the ones a day old, only for a few minutes supervised,, all the 7 ones born yesterday were very curious and wanted to peck, etc at the older 2, but the 2 older Silkie's were very afraid of the 7 babies, it was cute,, I put the 2 back in their own brooder that I have in my barn. The 7 are in my mud room in a temp brooder that I have.

They are adorable. Congrats!

After hatch when you open the eggs that never hatched to examine them, we call that eggtopsy. Basically an autopsy on the egg to look at the chick and the conditions of it's death. Sometimes this can help pinpoint problems during incubation and what went wrong. Other times it leaves more questions than answers.
Oh,, ok, so like the 1 egg that did not fully develop, I burried it like a week ago,, but was too afraid to crack it, was not sure what happened or if I could even deal with looking at it,,,
