Help on male or female

OK, got some better picture of my 8-9 week old EE and Buff Orpington mixes. 12 in total. But I have a feeling that I don't have very many pullets at all.

Should be two pictures of most of them. Tried to get best pictures I could. Two for sure are pullets and I am 100% positive on another for a Cockerel. But the others, well, could go either way. But all but the two I'm certain for pullets have some redish combs for pullets if they turn out to be them. Some have skinnier legs that others and have red combs. So it's so dang hard to tell.

I was hoping to get 4 or so hens out of this 12 bunch. Here's to hoping.

How old? and I would number them real quick... it will make it easier for us to all talk about the same bird.

Well, I am hoping that you're wrong and I have more than 3-4 pullets out of 12. But that's the luck of taking un-sexed chicks. Lot's of boys will become dinner I guess since I'm only keeping one rooster if I can get 4-5 hens out of this bunch.

I heard one try to crow from the back porch this morning. Very short screech type sound. But My one rooster I have now fooled me for a long time thinking he was not a he. So here's to hoping that some of these fool me and they turn out to be shes.

At 8-9 weeks of age, you have quite a few cockerels in the bunch. I only spot 2 pullets, provided #1 and #2 and #13 and #14 are the same little lady.

#1 and #2 - Pullet
#3 and #4 - Cockerel (red wing bars)
#5 and #6 - Cockerel
#7 and #8 - Cockerel
#9 through #12 - Cockerel
#13 and #14 - Pullet
#15 and #16 - Cockerel
#17 and #18 - Likely cockerel
#19 and #20 - Cockerel
#21 through #24 - Cockerel
#25 and #26 - Pullet
#27 and #28 - Cockerel
#29 through #31 - Likely cockerel
#32 and #33 - Pullet

This is based upon comb redness and colorful wing bars peeking through. Usually, EE pullets aren't showing significant pinking up or development by this age, due to the nature of the pea comb.

Definite cockerel, and stunning. I've raised a few males that looked like this....the barring molted out later on. A general rule of thumb for EEs (not completely foolproof, as there are always exceptions), is that reddish coloration = cockerel.

This is what I am afraid of. Going to be lots of chicken for dinner! 2 out of 12 is just my luck. But these are mutts of mutts. So I am hoping that the things have me fooled! Dad was an Easter Egger for sure. Mom is not fore sure. But it was another EE or Buff Orpington or both. Lady said they all hatched out of Blue/Green eggs!
