What should we do?

Until this morning we had 14 eggs incubating under a broody hen. She is in a dog cage in the hen house so nobody else can get in.

This morning I checked her eggs while she went out to feed and found 13 eggs and one broken shell - with blood veins clearly on the surface. No body though.

Has she become cannibalistic? Will she eat the babies as they begin to hatch? What should we do!!!

you can't do anything:( She most likely accidentally broke the egg and chickens do what they do-she ate it:( Mine did that to 4 of her 14 eggs! I gave her more space and it didnt happen again..Sorry it happened to you....Just pay close attention to her and such...If you see her break the egg herself...take her eggs and put in incubator for remaining time!

Okay - did the 10 that weren't eaten survive okay? Was she a good mother?

She's one of my best mommas
