One of my baby chicks is having problems walking. One of its legs is sticking out at the back and it has difficulty standing. Today it started to blow bubbles. It seems to be managing to get to the water and food. Please help - I hope I don't have to destroy it. It can move both legs.

Was it like this when you first got it or when it first hatched? It could be a defect. As far as the bubbles...I have never seen a chick or chicken blow bubbles, but I will try to find something on it.

It was about a week old when its leg went back. I have found a link for spraddle legs and have put a plaster around the legs. It now can stand up and walk around. The plaster has been on for a few days and seems to have made some progress. Fingers crossed!

Regard the bubbles - there was a lump on its neck which I now understand is its crop. (Sorry I am new to all this). I have taken some advise and have given it olive oil and have massaged the lump gently - it has now disappeared. The chick is very lively and eats and drinks well so I will keep you posted as to its progress over the next few weeks. All my other chicks are doing well and are very cheeky!

Great!! I am glad to hear everything is better!!

Hi, thank you to all of you who gave me advice - I am happy to say that my little black chicken is now running around with normal legs following a few days with a plaster around his legs. His lump on his neck has now disappeared due to the olive oil and massaging.

I have some more hatching in a few weeks - fingers crossed they are all healthy. It's such a stressful time when they are not well!
