Right now I have three bantams and four standard breeds in the brooder. One of the bantams today started to act funny. She is very sleepy all the time and is very lethargic just laying in the bottom of the brooder. She seems to be breathing heavier than the other chicks and is listless.

Should I separate her from the other chicks? Her poop seems runny compared to the other chickens. They are on standard chick starter feed. Does she have anything that is contagious to the other chickens?

It is my daughter's chicken and she would be very upset if it died. Can any one offer any suggestions on what ails her and what to try?

Thanks

how old is the bird?

what color are the droppings?

what bedding are you using?

she could have cocci..treated with Sulmet or Corid (amprolium)

if it is very hot there..she may have heat stroke..
get her to a cooler place
try and get some electrolytes (durvet brand is good)..and vitamins..
you can also use Poly-vi-sol liquid bay vitamins..2-3 drops on beak once a day for a week or so..then taper off..

does she have any other symptoms?
wet/draining eyes or beak
any mucus
wheezing

I am so upset the little lady died sometime last night. I am using only newspaper. The droppings were clear and runny. Should I be worried about the other chickens in the brooder? They are in the basement with a heat lamp on.

thanks
