HELP One of my chickens Stools have live worms in ??

omg chicken did a poop on back door step and I could see small worms / maggots alive in the poop lots of them too, its a light brownish colour poop but the hen seems fine ?????????????Help and advice please

Sounds like a case of round worm, most likely. There are some great threads on here about how to worm them. It is fairly easy - put into the water. You may want to do a search in this forum; I can't recall if Wazine is the best wormer or not.

We have free range ducks then there's the cattle, sheep and hogs which the chickens visit on a daily so is there potential for mass infection ???????

Most likely you did see maggots in the poop. Flies lay eggs and before you know it they are tiny maggots. Maggots dont normally do a snakelike squiggly motion like a large roundworm, it's more like a crawling forward motion. Internal worms when excreted dont live very long outside the host and quickly die. Large roundworms are most likely to be excreted if there's an infestation. They are very skinny (like very thin spagetti), pale white in color and I've seen them up to 2 inches in length. I've mostly seen them in the half inch to 1.5 inch range,snakelike motion.

Thanks for that but was standing right by her as she pooped so they came from within. Very small in length, white and pretty much died if they moved off the poop.
Its the first time I have been pleased to see my girls poop on the step as this needs sorting out me thinks

If you've never wormed before, I recommend you use wazine 17. You can buy it at a feed store. Also buy an equine wormer called Safeguard. Dosage for wazine is one ounce per one gallon of water. Remove their water just before they go to bed at night. Early the next morning when they first go outside their house, give them the wazine water and leave it out for 24 hours. After 24 hours remove and dispose it, replace with regular fresh water. Throw eggs in the garbage for 2 weeks. Wazine gets rid of large roundworms only. Two weeks later you'll want to use a broad spectrum wormer like the Safeguard. Dosage is a "pea" size amount of paste for each chicken. It's easiest to put it on a small piece of bread and give a piece to each chicken. Again, discard the eggs for another 2 weeks. Your done with worming.

If they looked like cous cous (short, rice like), you were looking at tapeworms. When they have tapeworms, the feces will often be covered with these. They are on the surface, not in hte inside of the feces. Wazine will not kill these. You need praziquantel (droncit) or albendazole. Off label too.

Thanks Mypicklebird YES they are rice size and on the surface. Only 60 free rangers to treat then as I assume it will be rife through the flock ???? then there's the ducks and turkeys ??????

I am not sure about the ducks and turkeys- but a chicken get the parasite by eating the vector insect (like cats and fleas), so no- the whole flock does not necessarily have them- just the one(s) that ate the unlucky bug. I think it is usually a beetle.
