HELP! Our cat is stuck in a tree!

Had this happen before and I will tell you the easiest and fastest way to get them down. Take a hose and spray the water just ABOVE their heads...as they start to go down, follow them down with the hose, just staying above their headspray just above their head--this will keep them moving down the tree--works like a CHARM!!!

When I was a kid we had a little siamese that climbed a telephone pole. She perched on the top of the pole for 2-3 days. The fire dept finally came to help get her down and that dang cat jumped for it. I can still remember watchign her fall... fall... fall.

She survived the jump but limped for several days.

After our cat was rescued by the tree surgeon, I remember she fell asleep on top of the t.v. Once she was asleep for a few minutes she fell off the t.v. Now talk about a look. This poor cat must of thought she had fell out of that tree.

I will never forget that look.

The cat ended up living for 22 years. R.I.P. Butch

As a retired fire captain I couldn't begin to count the number of times that I explained to a highly emotional caller that we couldn't come out to get a cat out of a tree. I often wanted to use the "cat skeleton in a tree" line but instead explained that if we had equipment and manpower tied up "rescuing" a cat and a real emergency came in it would delay our response time and that could lead to tragic consequences. Don't worry they will come down. Imagine my surprize when the Chief of the department directed me to take an aerial platform and get a cat out of a tree. I asked him about the cat skeleton policy and he said just go, the senior citizens at the complex were driving him nuts. When we arrived there were a dozen or so upset blue haired ladies standing under a large oak at the entrance to the senior citizen complex. And sure enough about fifty feet in the air was a cat that had somehow slipped and wedged in a branch fork. Unfortunately, the cat was dead and well on it's way to changing the answer to the "have you ever seen a cat's skeleton in a tree"?

OH I'm so glad the kitty got down...

But yes I did see a cat skeleton in a tree... I seen it while Driving home from town near our old house... it must have climbed the tree and froze (it was middle of a harsh winter)

We also had a cat of our own that got stuck in a tree... I tried for 2.5 days to coax it down... finally hubby went and bought a really long latter and got him down... Crazy kitty was right back up that same tree 2 days later

we ended up getting a lot of use out of that latter... LOL

The fire marshal comes out every time I see a cat stuck in a tree.

He kind of has to.. he's my big brother and I will wibble and make puppydog eyes at him FOREVER if he doesn't. He bought a pair of those cramp-on spikey things for pole climbing.

We had a cat get stuck up a tree, I found him because of his meow, and he never meowed. Because of the way their claws are made they are good at going up, but not so good at going down. My cat was up a tree for 3 days, so my dad used his tractor, I got in the scoop and he lifted me high enough to reach him.

I'm sure they will eventually get so weak they will fall out of the tree, but I'm not leaving my cat up there for more then 3 days. I'm sure there are alot of people that jump the gun and get upset when a cat is just not ready to come down, but I'm going to say if it's up there more then a full day, it probably hasn't figured out how to get down. Thankfully I never saw my cat in a tree again after that.
