Lola is a few years old, and had a clutch of peeps last year. She is showing signs of sickness. She has the runs, and was laying sand paper like very rough eggs. Then she started to lay soft shelled eggs for the last week. That slowly turned into partial soft shells and runny goo in the last 2 days. When we asked at the local Agway about the runs and soft shelled eggs, they asked if we give her oyster shell. When we told them they have a box of it in the coup they suggested Vitamins and electrolites, so we brought that home and mixed it up into the water. She drank it for two days but seemed to get worse, so I dumped it and gave her fresh plain water. Yesterday I picked her up as she was seeming motionless in her hen box. She squirted a watery milky white slim down my coat and leg. Never the less, she drank the water and slowly seemed to be getting better. I allowed the chickens and her out of the pen to free range and she seemed a bit better with that. She wandered around with the other 2 chickens, but seemed lethargic. Her poop was starting to look not totally mixed, brown and yucky, but seperate, greenish black with a tint of white, but still very wet with water. Today she seems more active, but she is still pooping the messy watery stuff, a lil more solid than yesterday. I let them out again this morning and she was/is very active, She immediatly came over to our front door and when I brought out a slice of bread she began jumping up to get it. When I sat down she jumped right up on my leg and tried to steel the whole slice of bread for herself! Problem is, I then went to check the coup and I found one of the soft shelled cases and the milky white runny stuff with blood in it on the floor under her perch. What is going on with our poor Lola?
