Hello
I bought the cutest tea pot to paint at the thrift store today. :)
But i don't know what paint is good for painting ceramics. I don't like buying from online i like to buy from a store and the only craft stores we have are ac moore, michaels and joanns. we also have a paint supply store but they are rediculous prices. Paint supply store sells paint for painting canvas etc. but they want like $20.00 for a small bottle, soo i'm not going there.

does anybody have experience at painting ceramics?

I've painted quite a lot of ceramic things using Pebeo paints and markers. You just paint your ceramic item then bake it in an oven to make it permanent. We used to have a tea & spice shop and I painted a lot of ceramic things that we sold in the shop. The local Ben Franklyn carried Pebeo paints but only a small selection of colors and some of what I got there was old (sort of dried up). The best place I found to get my supplies was online at markersupply.com. They have a ton of colors, different widths of markers and last I looked, they had some helpful tips on how to use this product.

You just reminded me how much fun this was...I'll have to dig mine out and give them a try again!

I've used acrylic paints for many ceramic pieces, but if you are planning to actually use the teapot, I would try to find a paint or glaze that is safe to use with food and hot things.

That's exactly why I went with the Pebeo paints and markers...baking the painted item makes the design permanent and food-safe (I mostly painted tea pots). The painted items will have to handwashed gently but if care is taken, the design painted on them is permanent.

Here is a link to see some of the markers. I see where Marker Supply has updated the information to say the painted items can be washed in a dishwasher, but personally, I wouldn't take the risk.
