I have a 3 year old male peacock who is trying very badly to attract the attention of his mate to no avail. Lady Gaga the peahen does not show any interest in him, and she is also 3 years old. I got her about 18 months ago, and she laid one egg the day after she came home, but has not laid another since then. Last year she did not laid any eggs at all. Pea Diddi is going crazy displaying and vocalizing. What is wrong with Lady Gaga?

Hello and
welcome-byc.gif
, in particular, the Most Spectacular Land of Peas!

Unless you're watching Pea Diddi and Lady Gaga 24/7, you may not know what kind of...relationship they have.
I have never seen a peahen actually "show any interest." I have a feeling that the signal they send the fellas isn't apparent to the human eye.

I just moved then into a new pen called the peacock palace with lots of room and perches for the and another younger pair. Up until 2 days ago she was in a smaller pen with chickens and turkeys. I'm worry because she spent all day today pacing back and forth trying to get back to the older pen. Ebe

I know a couple of Peacocks that think they are a turkey. She might think that. She will soon adjust

thanks Chook, you give me hope.

What color is she? it is said that a certian colored Peas are often infertil and some don't lay at all if i am not mistaken.
do you have photos of your pair to share?

Thank you for your response Zaz. Lady Gaga is a purple (I was told when I bought her) and PeaDiddi is Blue. I have had bad luck with my peahens. The first 2 I bought had gape work and died. I did not know any better but they both died within 1 month. Lady Gaga developed an abscess just below her eye and almost died. A vet at the feed store gave me Keylan injected on her breast muscle for 7-10 days and she recovered nicely. Of course I also had to drain as much as I was able the gunk inside the abscess and kept her isolated for about 3 weeks until she recovered. I will make some pictures of them and post them. I question whether the antibiotic caused to her to lose interest in the male, but she really never showed any interest anyway.

I feel for ya, i to have had some losses , one to internal laying, one to a respiratory infection, one to what i believe to be ant poison that my daughter put out at her place.
They are prone to so many things and many times they do not show symptoms till the day the pass away, it is heart breaking, but i have learned to accept it .

Depending on where you are located, it may be too early for her to start laying. Moving birds can also stress them so they don't lay. Make sure you are giving her a proper diet and give her some time...
