Help Picking Rabbit Breed for Indoor Pet & Possibly 4H Project

hi! I know that title is long but it pretty much sums it up. I want to get my family an indoor bunny as a pet. I hope to litter box train it so it can be free to roam the house. I have a few breeders I’m talking to with a variety of breeds. I tend to want the adorable small fizzy breeds like lionhead, Holland lop, or mini lop, but I also have a breeder with large Rex rabbits.
How do I choose the right breed for us??
My two sons are 3 and 7. Would bigger be better for them? Or smaller and easier to handle?
Help!! All bunnies are cute so how do I pick!? Needing expert bunny advice on breeds.

My mini lops are friendly bunnies. My lionheads are moody. I think either a mini lop or a Holland lop would make a good house bunny, but really most bunnies can be great pets so pick the size you want. Make sure to get it spayed or neutered to keep it cute and nice.

I would be careful having kids picking bunnies up as they can scratch you pretty good. Best to just pet and not hold until they are a bit older.

Agree on the mini-lops. My sister had a bunch of them when we were kids. The males are very bold and very friendly, the females slightly less so (but still friendlier than the meat rabbits, even the ones we made pets of.) They also have a tendency to hump everything, so I'll second on the neutering.

Rex's are gentle giants. Very sweet. They are harder to handle because of their size, but they are less moody then smaller breeds. Hollands are what I specialize in. They can be cuddle bugs, or they can be complete territorial, moody, standoffish little things. You have to be careful when getting one from a big breeder, bc chances are, the bunny hasn't been handled much. There are breeders I've bought from that make sure they socialize their bun buns, and those are the sweetest Holland lops in the world. Most rabbits go through a "teenager stage" when they are less than a year, where they get kinda nippy and grumpy, but then they are back to being nice in a few weeks. I haven't had much experience with Minis, but when I judged them a while back, they were hard to handle. Good luck!
