My eggs have all started to hatch. One chick had an external pip. We wait 24hrs and nothing had changed. we waited a little longed then continued on with do an assisted hatch for the little guy. We took out time following the steps on here to the letter, being very careful with him. Everything went fine, after we assisted a bit then let him be he managed to the rest on his own but he was position wrong in the shell before he hatched but he came out and appeared to be fine. We left in the incubator to dry off with the others who had hatched last night and were just finishing drying off. The others seemed to be pecking at him lots but he appeared fine. Once the others were dry we moved them to the brooder house. However the chick now though appears weak and can hardly move. He dose chirp now and again but not like he was and he doesn't move around at all.
Is there any way I can help him or this chick not going to make it no matter what I do?
I currently have a nice warm damp cloth loosely wrapped around his body and legs but not his head. He could get free of the cloth with little effort. I am hoping this will help him. Any other ideas, or suggestions would be helpful.
Thank you everyone.

Oh my! It looks like you have a bad situation. I think you should keep doing what your doing. I recommend really keeping watch with him. I hope your little guy makes it! :( Do you mind sending a picture? It would make it easier. Anyway, good luck! :)

I did get two pictures of him. He chirped when I moved the blanket to get the photo of him. He appears to have brought his legs up under him like they should have been in the egg.

The picture seems to me that if he's newly hatched, is he moving around at all or trying to get around? You may want to dribble some water on the side of her beak and see if she laps it up. In the incubator, is she drying?

Hmm... it might still be thinking it's in the egg because of the blanket... Just keep doing what your doing and be VERY gentle. Reply if there's a problem. I'm so sorry about your little guy! :(((

UPDATE: After a long night staying up with the little guy he is doing much better. He is standing now, still seems very weak and doesn't chirp much but he is doing better. He has dried out and is in a brooder cage to himself and I with him all the time so he isn't lonely. We thing that at the rate he is improving that by tonight I will be able to put him in with his siblings.

I think what you should do is keep him out of the cage with his siblings for right now until he is fully healthy. Keep plenty of watch on it, but it should be okay at this point. Let me know if I can help anymore. Good Luck! :)

I would keep some sav a chick (electrolyte) on hand if possible. I actually use it in all of my chicks water the first couple couple days. I'd keep him seperate until he has the strengtha nd is active enough so that he can stand up for himself and/or run away if needs be. You can try some sugar water for a day and see if that helps as well if sav a chick is not readily available to you.

Thank you AmyLynn2374,
I have him in the cage by him self until he is stronger. The other chicks are all bigger then him and are moving around like crazy, one of them even try's to run a bit. Once I feel he is stronger he will be back with his siblings.

Those always help. I recommend those too. Do that with the rest of the chicks as well. It makes them strong, so they don't die of diseases when they're young. Good Luck! :))
