I finally got my broody hen off of her eggs, only to find that the other hens have been laying eggs in there too and some of her eggs have been crushed, I pulled out the other hens eggs and the crushed ones then set her back on the eggs, I did manage to snag one for candling.... It has a good sized air sac at the fat end but the rest of the egg is totally dark... I can't see anything! Is this normal? Are these eggs bad? They should be hatching around Friday of this week.

The eggs that my girl is sitting on are green... I don't know if that makes it harder to see anything... When I look at an egg from my girls (not fertile) and candle it with the same flash light it totally lights up

A large aircell and a dark egg where you are unable to see anything is a fully developed chick getting ready to hatch. PUT THE EGG BACK UNDER THE BROODY AND DO NOT TOUCH AGAIN!!!

Look here for some great candling pics: https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/candling-pics-progression-through-incubation-of-chicken-eggs

Good luck with your hatch!

Well we are leaving her alone, we decided to take a peek in the crushed eggs... I wish I hadn't, poor baby chickies were in there :'( however I now do have hope that some of the eggs will hatch!!!!

Well we have 6 fluffy babies out in the coop with mama! She loves them so much! We had one extra baby hatch about a day and a half after the others, I had to pull the egg of her and bring her inside, she was just laying in the nesting box and mama was ignoring her and playing with the 6 other ones .... But peeper is doing ok now, sugar water and being spoon fed seems to agree with her... But she is smaller, not as active and even though she is from the same hen as all the others she is colored totally different... The others all have stripes and patches and she is all yellow with a few grey/black feathers on her head...
