Help Please! Air cells look too big

transpiration through the cell membranes and shell.  There's a lot of metabolic activity and growth going on at that time.  It's not all about evaporation.  Such an incredible process!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It really is fascinating! I was shocked to see how large they had gotten, to think a full grown chick could fit in an egg with an air cell that big was difficult to comprehend.

Doesn't it have to do with oxygen exchange as well? I noticead when I was researching incubation at higher altitudes that was a big factor.

First time I saw it, I thought there was something wrong and I lost my chick. It really is amazing how it all works and how they manage to do anything in that awkward position in there...lol

A few years ago when I was cleaning out the shells from the nesting box when my broody had hatched some chicks, one of the eggs had zipped north to south, I guess that means it probably pipped the small end? I could hardly believe it. All of them were healthy and bouncing around, so it apparently made it out alright, I just couldn't imagine how it made that zip happen.
