Help please - chick hatched but cord still attatched

hi, my chick has just hatched on day 26 and the cord is still attatched. it looks wet and there is some sloppy grayish stuff where its attatched to the shell.

what should I do? its dragging the shell behind it. is this normal? this is my first time hatching,.

Could you post a picture? Are you sure that it isn't an unabsorbed yolk sac the chick is dragging? I had a chick like that connected to the shell with 'hatching gunk' and I just snipped the cord with medical scissors.

sorry its rubbish, my phone is awful at taking photos. that dark coloured stuff you see in the bottom of the shell is what the cord is attatched too.

Yes, it's 'hatching gunk'. It will dry up and fall off of the chick, along ith the egg, but if it needs to be removed you can snip the cord closest to the shell.

that is the cord or atleast what I think is the cord.

the shell has now come off but the cord thing is still attatched but it's a lot better than dragging the shell around with her. thank you very much for your help
