My Isa Brown Hens are just now 20 weeks old. They have been doing the whole squatting with their wings back for the past week or so.

I let them out this morning and they came running out like normal.

I have went out this afternoon to do some yard work and noticed that one of my hens is laying in the back of the run under the she is just laying there...sometimes she stands up and seems like her butt is in the air.

She is usually the loudest one...but she is being very quiet. I am wondering if she is trying to lay her first egg?

I am starting to worry about her though. Any thoughts on what I should do? Should I leave her alone? Should I go out and look at her? I am unsure what to do.

I havent noticed anything on here about what she is doing to be normal for laying? Unless I am just freaking out?

I did just leave her alone...I did not want to interrupt her if she was trying to lay. Should I go out there and see what she does when I go into the coop like I do when I visit them during the day?

I'm new to this stuff too. The first time I walked in on my chicken laying, she made this really scary loud screaming noise at me. I thought she was sick. apparently, that's normal though, and they do get really loud and chattery right before they lay. sometimes, they sing this egg laying song right after too, it's hilarious. So, just leave her. I'm sure she's just experiencing the uncomfortable egg laying feeling.

I never saw my 2 laying hens lay there first eggs but I do know that when my duck first layed hers she looked really sick and uncomfortable

Well...I just went out and found a small soft egg laying in the middle of the run...she was kinda standing over it looking down at it. Oh these silly chickens have me worried about the tiniest things.
