Thank you so much! I’m happy I found this website. I follow a few chicken pages on facebook and no one ever replies to me hahaCongrats on the new egg—how exciting!
As for the vent issue, it sounds like it could be a prolapsed vent. It happens when part of the vent area (the cloaca) temporarily comes out, often due to straining during egg laying or from other pressure. It can happen in some hens when they're just starting to lay eggs because their bodies are adjusting.
If it's only happening briefly and goes back in on its own without any other signs of distress (like swelling, bleeding, or continued prolapse), it might not be too serious, but it's something to keep an eye on. You can try giving her extra calcium (from oyster shell or crushed eggshells) to help with the egg laying process, and make sure she's not under too much stress. If it keeps happening or seems to be more than a minor issue, you might want to consult with a BYC again or the vet.
Also, the first egg is so special!
Thank you! I am so relievedIf it is retracting the bird is fine and do not treat. If the bird is active, eating and laying the bird is fine.
Thank youIt sometimes happens. As long as it retracts right away, there's nothing to be concerned about.
