Hello! First time incubating and hatching Roman Tufted Goose eggs, and out of 12 eggs I set, only 5 seem to have developed where they look like they are viable to hatch. Unfortunately, the goose book I was using for reference was using much different higher humidity levels than what the guide on here had advised (I found out way too late). I had the humidity over 70% most of the incubation and it's around 75% now and we're on day 29 (30 days seem to be the average for Roman Tufted Geese). I just noticed that this egg seems to have pipped, but it looks odd to me. Anyone have any guidance on this? What do you think?

I only have experience with chicken eggs, but that looks normal to me. We just hatched a bunch - they all started like that and then began to make their zipper. Some took a few hours, some took over 24.

How is your hatch going? As you know, the humidity was very high during incubation, so I'd be concerned that the eggs didn't lose enough moisture.

That looks like a pip on the wrong end, and (it's hard to tell) possible fluid around it from excess moisture in the egg. Is the gosling breathing and making progress? Geese are slow to go from external pip to hatch.

If you haven't read it already, this guide to assisted hatching by Pyxis may come in handy.

Today was day 31, 2 of the 4 that are left (the one above- #5- was clearly dead- it started seeping more ☹️) both have very good sized air cells in spite of the increased moisture which seem plenty adequate for them if they do hatch. I opened it up and those 2 have clear movement still, but so far have not yet internally pipped. I sprayed them with water after opening it up to make sure they don't end up drastically less humid after being incubated this moist so far. How many more days can they go and they still hatch? I thought for sure from what I had read from others that Roman Tufteds usually hatched by 30 days.

Next time I will definitely go by the guide on here. I don't understand how the book on Geese I have is could be so radically incorrect about the temperature and humidity.

Thanks!
