Help please, lethargic chick!! Getting worse...

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Bantam, don't know the breed, maybe OEG, Approx. 2-3 weeks old

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Started moving slowly, falling asleep standing up, still eating and drinking, but doing everything very slowly - I have only had her since Sunday and when we first got her, she was very active. Now she easily lets us pick her up and will just lay in our hands.

3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No.

4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.

5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Free feed nutrena medicated chick starter, treats of boiled chicken pieces, parakeet grit given in separate dish

6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Sometimes runny and brown, other times normal.

7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Put vitamins/electrolyte in water when I got home from work, but am not sure if she has taken any yet

8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I would like to treat her myself.

9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.

10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Brooder, red light for heat (90 degrees), pine bedding

Any help would be greatly appreciated -- I also have a barred rock chick in there with her, about the same age, same food, treats, water, etc. that is doing fine.

Does her crop appear swollen? Try some plain yogurt w/ a wee bit of crumbles mixed in. Hope this gives you a bump.

Thanks. Her crop feels empty, a little squishy, but not much. I can't get her to eat yogurt. I mixed some feed with it and she ate a little, but I don't think enough to matter.

Has the bird come in to contact with anything outside, specifically the ground or anything from it? If yes, then begin treating for cocci with either Amprol or Sulmet. Remove the V&E during treatment. If any other peeps are in with this chick then they should all be treated.

If no, give the baby some room temp sugar water for energy. Then mix up some chick feed in a wet mash and encourage it to eat. If you have Exact Hand Rearing Formula that is the first thing I give downed birds.

The most common ailment at that age is cocci, certainly. Can't hurt to do a round of Corid (Amprol) as Robin suggested. There are other things it could be, but if not cocci, then all you can do is supportive therapy like the hand feeding formula, yogurt, etc.

Thanks, I will get the Corrid tomorrow and start treating with that. Hopefully, it will take care of it. I fee sorry for her, she keeps trying to curl up under the wing of the older chick in the brooder, seems to be looking for her mom.
