HELP PLEASE My Chicken is choking what do i do?

Sounds like an impacted crop.. What does her crop feel like? An impacted crop will feel tight and hard and can swell up and cut off the wind pipe. If it were my hen I would flip her upside down and massage her throat for no more than 30 seconds. And repeat as necessary. Or you could take her to the vet. Some people have commented about a possibility of food getting into the lungs by flipping them upside down but I take the risk when I do it... Especially if they can't breath.

I had a chicken that was choking today, I followed your advise to use olive oil and it seemed to work. Her choking stopped. Thanks.

I just read this as my chicken was choking badly.... I couldn’t find anything on how to make her stop.
If your chicken is choking then:
1. Hold them up with face towards the ground
2. Rub their back, near the neck and massage the crop once they start spewing up food
3. Then just let them have a little walk around and give lots of cuddles once recovered

We very nearly lost our Ethel today (about 20 mins ago), she had gone blue as breathed in a piece of sweet corn when eating too fast. Honestly thought I’d lost her, but after doing this she has recovered. Just thought I’d add as was in a panic and couldn’t find any tips on helping it stop.

Never had this issue but look and see if you can see anything sticking out of her beak. If you can pull on'a piece of string or grass sticking out it could help. If not, try a little bit of olive oil to help it go down. Use an eye dropper or spoon, maybe a tablespoons worth.

Good luck.
Dear Friend,
11 years passed since this thread and maybe this message will never get to you, but
THANK YOU,
this olive oil treatment has just saved our little silkie chicken choking on some chicken food <3 Thank you, mate!

Its been a while, but my hen just choked on some dry pellets... I made my hand like a triangle, put the "tip" over her head, and pushed up and back, she was blue... Immediately she turned back to red, shook her self a little and got over it! Maybe this is not how most would do it, but it worked for me! Thanking the Lord for giving me the wisdom to help my hen that I could never imagine loosing!
