Help Please!!!!! My Silkie is paralysed!!!!! UPDATED!! VIDEO!!!

It can take up to 12 - 16 weeks for another bird to show signs/symptoms of Marek's. I lost my first and not until over 3 months later did I lose my second. I can't, of course, be certain that it is Marek's but, this bird isn't getting better and the symptoms are getting worse. They are following the progression of Marek's.

Without a necropsy, it would even be a guess on the part of the vet unless, it was a break and it showed on an xray...I only hope that it is.

If your chick is now doing splits, I would be very concerned that it is Marek's. At first, they do have some control but, it will get worse. And, contrary to popular belief, the paralysis with Marek's is different then normal paralysis that we think of. They will jerk back when pinched or poked. They will move their legs just lose the ability to control and walk on them. At this point, I would recommend euthanizing and having a necropsy done. The lab that I used did not want live birds, they preferred that they had been euthanized first.

I'm so sorry

The lab that I took some of mine to, wanted Live chickens, so I think its best to find out first before you take them in....

Well Like I stated earlier, you can't be for sure it's mereks unless you have him tested, but doing the splits and leaning over to the one side. Not a good sign, I would definitely give him Vitamin B-2, if it's just an injury, this will help alot. If you don't see any improves and he's just getting worst, I would not risk it. I would take him in to get tested.

Sorry but the splits is NOT a good sign.. If it's Mereks its only going to get worst and worst until he does end up dying...

Crossing fingers though that the Vitamin B-2 will help and we are wrong that it was just a really bad sore muscle or an injury...I will be praying for the best.... . The Vitamin B-2 will help with leg issues but not with Merek's since there is no cure for this Horrible disease... So as soon as you can get the Vitamin B-2 in him and I will be hoping for the very best, the best recovery possible....

I'm so sorry for your little chick! Luck can play cruel tricks on people sometimes.

Never feel bad when it comes to Marek's, it's very hard to combat, most don't make it. There might be a tiny glimmer of something you could do... look at this thread, https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/135247/mareks-disease
Sorry, but I wouldn't waste my time or money trying this, I have read several places where this does not help at all...

This morning he is up and moving around. He is still wobbly on the good leg, but he is no worse that I can see. We will see how the day progresses. This is day 6.

Pharmacy is closed here on sundays Ill have to wait till tomorrow to get the B2

He is eating and drinking. I took him off the 5 day antibiotic and now he is on water vitamins with electrolytes. I will still give Polyvisol once a day.

I forgot to mention earlier, he does not have any kind of wing drop.

I found some flakiness under her feathers. Its fine, like dandruff. He has lost about 6-8 feathers over the course of the last few days. Down feathers, not chick fluff. I dont know if thats enough feather loss to mean anything. I still dont see any redness or swelling around the follicles.

I'm going to cull when I get home from church. I'll have to pray none of the others gets sick. Hopefully it wont spread to the girls outside either. I wont be going out there for some time. As it is, my bantam Cochins, my black silkie, and Stumpy have been exposed. I'll cull Juicy and see what happens in a couple of weeks. Maybe nothing will happen. I can only hope and pray.
