My coworker and I hatch baby chicks in the classroom. This year one of hers got stuck in the shell and dried out. I tried to save it by wetting the membranes and slowly peeling them away. Now it has this clear yellow stuff stuck all to it and I am wondering the best method of cleaning it up to fluff up. Ideas? Advice? I’d love to save the life of this baby chick.

Is it active?
I'm not sure about washing a brand new chick off with warm water.
I personally would wait.
Let's see what others say.

It is very active and kicking its feet. I started running warm water over it next to a heat lamp and it seems to be cleaning it. I just hope it can walk

Heat lamps get very hot...tooo hot sometimes.
Keep a close eye on the temp in your brooder so you don't over heat them.

Absolutely! Right now I’m standing over it watching and feeling the heat. I don’t want it to chill since it was wet so I’m being very cautious. After her bath she’s so much more active and fiesty!

Good job!

Krodgers, I run warm water over mine when they are sticky chicks. You might consider putting just a small dab of triple antibiotic ointment over its navel area. Congrats on the hatch

She’s getting fluffier and determined to stand up. She even tried to start preening under her wing!!!! From what I’ve read, that’s a great sign!
