Help please new owner

OK first real issue today. The Degu bit my son. Now screaches like a pig when we go near. Bite pretty deep bled over hour. Anyone know if the screeching is a warning?

Yikes, they can bite pretty hard if they become afraid. How did your son handle her? Did he make a sudden movement? Was she cornered? Did she get hurt, squeezed, tail grabbed, etc?

Something happened to distress her. So she'll need to be given some time to calm down. And try not to repeat the situation that led to the bite.

We think it was because my oldest (who really took over the degu) was holding her and my youngest sat down next to him with his Guinea pig.
