Hey all-
I would love some help with my 9 month old Rhode Island Red, Tilly. This morning when she came out of the coop, she was super off balance. She can’t seem to stand on her own two feet. I gave her a warm bath and put her in chicken quarantine. This evening, she’s still not standing balanced. However, she also hasn’t pooped at all.

She’s eating and drinking well, talking back. Her eyes, ears, and vent look clear. She’s mostly enjoying the extra attention and yogurt. Any ideas?

I’ve had this entire flock since chicks and none of the other ladies are sick. One did pass when she was about six weeks due to a (as far as we can tell) GI infection.

This could be almost anything. Feel her crop to see if it is full and hard or soft and puffy, or empty. Look her over for mites and lice. Try to get her drinking water, and add electrolytes or
SavaAChick or give some NutriDrench if you have it. Offer come chopped egg, and wet her feed in a small bowl to get her eating.
Look for any signs of weakness of one or both legs. Is she holding up a leg or dragging one, or does she have any scabs on either foot pad? Any welling or bruising on either leg or joint?

Thank you so much!

Her crop feels normal. I couldn’t find any signs of notes or lice or of scabs, swelling, or bruising.

She has now passed two poops. Both were super large and really smelly. I’ll post a photo below.

Today her balance is worse. It seems more balance related than legs. If I get her to stand her r she tries to stand, her legs don’t buckle. It’s more like they both lock and she flops any way (forward, backward, either side).

She’s still eating on her own, but doesn’t seems as interested in water. They’re used to a waterer with chicken nipples and I don’t have an extra for her in quarantine. It’s just out of a bowl.
