Help Please! pics UPDATE: she died =o(

You might want to out her on an old towel instead of newspaper. If she has a hip injury, the slick newspaper won't let her get her leg under her to heal well.

Her legs were a little awkward, she seemed almost bowlegged for lack of a better word. My original post was in regards to the awkwardness of her legs.

These new symptoms have only been in the last week. I did take her outside this morning and let her lay in the grass, she picked the grass and at one point was walking around (still not normally) but moving. She seemed to tire out though and just laid back down and was done. I am sure there is some sort of deformity with her legs or hips probably with no viable solution.

My hubby has been working on a big coop today and is going to make her a separate area where the others can't pick on her but I won't move her back for another week or so just to make sure she is doing ok. She is alert and making still making soft clucking sounds.

I do appreciate all the suggestions and still at a loss, I think I am doing everything I can do, hopefully not too much. =oS

SEPARATE HER WITH HER OWN DRINK AND WATER FROM THE OTHERS
I believe much of what you are seeing is nutritional (not saying you are not feeding your birds properly...far from it but some will hatch out with problems that need vitamin supplementation and when they do not get it the symptoms worsen and malabsorption of nutrients occur complicating matters even further.)

I suspect some deficiency and strongly urge you to get Polyvisol Enfamil formulation (childrens liquid A-B-D vitamins) and give three drops in beak once a day for a week and then taper off the next (the bow legs could indicate rickets:

I also urge you to stop giving "treats" and mix just enough cooked human oatmeal into her feed (you should be switching over to a layer type feed now)... just enough to make it clump together and mix a scrambled egg into that every other day or so. I would also put electrolytes/vitamins in her water immediately as it sounds as though she has been unable to get to the waterer and maybe dehydrated to some degree. (you can get at your feed store) If you possibly can do so offer her live culture yogurt (plain unflavored) free choice daily.

She is already separate, I have moved her into a dog kennel in the house where is cool. She has access to food and water of her own.

I have been giving her layer feed mixed with oyster shell and plain yogurt as well as sugar water.

She has not gotten any other treats other than the plain yogurt.

I checked the local feed store for a vitamin supplement today however they only had the Terramycin and electrolyte available.

Do not mix the oyster shell through the feed... too much calcium is just as bad as too little ...rickets can also be cuased by the ratio of calcium to phosphorus and D3 being wrong.... offer it free choice.

if you are unable to get poultry vitamins at your local feed store..they are available online at any of the hatcheries or suppliers..
such as McMurray Hatchery..

do also try and get the liquid baby vitamins as dlh suggested..they are available at any pharmacy.

I agree that the problem is most likely nutritional from hatch out, and worsening because she is not able to compete..everything leading to malabsorption...

it's also possible she had a case of splayed legs as a chick.

changing from newspaper to a towel will help her.

Rickets is a strong possibility at her age.
the oatmeal, yogurt, egg, vitamins and electrolytes all work together to aid in absorption of nutrients.

You should really listen to dlhunicorn. She is the authority. She saved my chick! Good luck to you and your sweetie!

I've changed the newspaper to an old towel and just change it out when it gets soiled. I got the Polyvisol Enfamil drops tonight and gave her the first dose. I also gave her some oatmeal with scrambled egg and later some yogurt.

As far as the oyster shell, what is the correct ratio for this and do I want to give that to her or not? And if so, do I give it separate from the feed? We do the same with the others we have, mixed with the layer feed and occasionally scattered on the ground for pecking at.

I took her outside tonight after it cooled down some and she was alert and walked around more. She scurried to the coop fence to see the others. This is the most active she's been in a week. I am hoping that this is the start of a recovery for her. I am still hopeful and will do whatever I can.

I will keep everyone updated - thanks SO much for the suggestions - I would be absolutely lost otherwise. I am loving this site.

be sure to mix that oatmeal in with the feed (just enough to make it clump together)...
...ALWAYS give oyster shell free choice and do not mix in with the feed (too much calcium is just as bad as too little)
