Help Please!!! We have an 11 Day old wood duckling scoots doesn’t stand and walk…

Thank you he’s definitely loved already and just for clarity and to clarify I did reach out to proper authorities and channels about our lil one and there is no right or wrong on having him. Because some buy and raise them so honestly like they said their is no way to distinguish which one he is.. It’s up to me whether I want to turn him over and not take responsibility for him and put out the money or time and care for him : least to say I have no problem taking the time to care of him I just want to make sure I properly do it and give him everything he needs. This seemed like a good place to start with people being experienced with ducklings or for ones that’s been through similar things..

I agree with miss Lydia that that looks like a niacin deficiency. What I use to treat it with mine is durvet injectable cattle b complex. It can be given orally. I like to give live mealworms as treats to wild type ducklings like that as babies to make sure they're eating well, so to get the b complex in them that's what I use. I use a small syringe with a needle attached, draw out some of the complex, and infuse mealworms with it. This way you can get enough into them and they don't even know. Give him a decent amount a few times a day and see if it helps. If it's a b vitamin deficiency he should fully recover in a few days.
And you can't really overdose b vitamins since any excess is excreted in the feces.

How do his hocks/legs look? Any heat or swelling?

Thank you I’m honestly not sure how the legs are supposed to look seriously this is a first time for us .. I’ve tried to look up pictures and see it’s like he just can’t stand straight up he has full of energy not lethargic at all hopefully when we start the liquid and yeast on his food tomorrow hopefully that will help him and if not I will keep pushing to figure it out and hopefully he can start to thrive well.. I’m thinking we may need to get him a companion though he doesn’t like when I get out of eye sight and he can’t ride every where with me even though he seems to think he can

Yes we definitely plan on keeping him .. Fingers crossed that between the power yeast to sprinkle on the food and also the b complex that it help him get up on his feet so he can live a good and normal life and not be left behind or picked on by the others when we go to get one or two

That’s my worry I don’t want him to get bullied.. But also hoping being around other ducklings will help him kinda see money see monkey do

There is always that chance but if you introduce where they can't actually pick on each other it goes alot better when integrating new ducklings. I separated my brooder into two so my youngest and my older ducklings were in the same brooder but the older couldn't pick on the younger. It only took 3 days for them to be so cozy the littles would climb onto the older and sleep.

They definitely don't look right. That's probably why he got left behind. Definitely not a captive hatched duckling, I'm sure a wild hen hatched him in a tree or nest box somewhere nearby. They'll nest in some cases up to a couple miles from water.
One raised captively would be almost impossible to find, as they have to be brooded artificially in captivity and would not just "escape". And even if they did, they wouldn't leave because they'd be bonded to their siblings. I do own wood ducks and could possibly sell you one at some point as a friend for him. I had a bad hatch this year though so it'll depend on how everything goes and if I have extras or not. If I don't one of my friends would probably have one available.

I’m attaching pictures of both of his legs and hopefully someone can tell me if they look ok .. Maybe if I put splints or braces on both legs maybe that will teach him to stand correctly if there is nothing wrong with them so he wouldn’t get def I walking on his tummy area … Im just so confused and want to help him out especially since he’s still young hopefully I can catch and get it fixed ahead Thursday is just so far away…

Thank you definitely will keep that in mind and would love to have em a partner like him just let me know ! I’ve been giving him the yeast on his food and soaked some meal works in the complex and let me just say Whew that crap stinks I’m just having a hard time getting him to eat them i don’t think he likes the taste.. How can I get the dose into him any ideas would be appreciated! I did talk to my neighbor explaining that we were getting an enclosure and all for him when he’s bigger and that I was going to need them to all keep their cats in check or else… And one of the neighbors piped in and said that he also came across a baby duckling around the same time maybe a day or two before our little one waddled into our lives that his cat had put on their stoop! Then preceded to tell my husband that he just took it and put it in the woods behind our houses. So I honestly know he must have been born a wild hatchling but got lost or take Or left behind we were just blessed to have him come into our lives.. I looked at his legs to try and see if their was something slipped or what but I honestly don’t know what I’m supposed to be looking for.. I am hoping the vet will be coming to our area tomorrow afternoon so I can take him or her to get looked at… I’m going to post a video of lil one while I massaged his legs and straightening them and working them maybe your trained eye will see something that could help….
