Hi, if you have seen my other posts you will see i have had a few issues along the way hatching my pheasant eggs. Well i now have 6 chicks but some were hatched. Day 23 and some yesterday day 24 . Today is day 25 and there is no sign of any others breaking out, however i have just checked them as i thought they were duds and in 3 of the eggs i can hear cheeping , do i leave these for a bit longer or should i do something. Now. Im also worried that the others could have chicks in but hatch on day 26. Is this possible or do you think these could have been stuck in the egg since day 24. Just to add there is no sign of any pipping on any of the eggs even the ones cheeping.
Ideas and help please.
Cheers

You are likely to do more damage if you try to peel them out when they aren't ready. If they are peeping then they have already internally pipped. It can take 13 hours before they externally pip/start zipping. There may have been a cool spot in your bator. As anxious as you are for them to be out and confirm another chick life just remember that they will come out when they are developmentally ready, just give them time:-)

Thanks for the replies, im both happy and sad at the same time. I have 6 healthy bouncing chicks that hatched at day 23 and 24. Since i wrote my earlier post i now have two more chicks and 1 which had zipped all the way round the shell . Half hour later it was still in the shell but dead , i couldnt see any movement at all so i took it out of the shell to see if i coild see what was wrong, i couldnt see anything wrong at all so why it died after zipping all the way i dont know.
I now think the incubator has a massive defect in the way the temp is flowing across the incubator. There are still quite a few eggs in the incubator and i bet these will have chicks but are hatching slower due to low temp fluctuations.
The pheasants are ringnecks and i was told they can take 25 days to hatch, how long would you leave these eggs before i call it a day.
Also the 1 that hatched first at day 23 is very active and entertaining but really small to the other chicks, hope it will be ok
Cheers

From what i'v been reading about over due eggs you should wait 24 hours before doing anything. Then if you still have eggs that have not piped you can do the float test to check if they are alive or not. If they are alive then stick them back in the incubator and up the humidity as much as possible and keep waiting. See here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ng-egg-viability-for-late-or-overdue-hatching

The float test can only be done with eggs that have NOT piped, or else you will drown the chicks.

Did the float test and the remaining eggs are dead. I have now got 7 healthy chicks and 1 that isnt too good.
But the float test did work and when i opened the eggs they had all died at sort of the same age.im no expert so its a best guess but i would reckon they would have only been about 5 days from hatching out. I started with 29 good eggs so it wasnt a brilliant hatch but im really happy that some did hatch out. But for so many eggs to fail and they all looked the same age at death is worrying.
Next year i will buy a different incubator as i have no faith in this one .
Thanks for all the replies to my questions over the last few days and icwill put some pictures on today or tomorrow of rhe little babies.
Cheers

Sorry to hear that

you maybe had problems with the temperature or humidity. But at least you have some healthy chicks! I'd love to see some pics. I'm still waiting for mine to hatch, no pipping yet but i could head faint chirping this morning!

Were you eggs that hatched all wobbling a lot right up until they hatched? Mine were wobbling on day 18-19, but now I'm not seeing them move so much and I'm worried about them. But i definitely heard some chirping this morning so i think at least one is alive!

Only one of mine wobbled, sorry 2 of them did but the one that died yesterday wobbled a lot but then died in the shell even thought it was nearly out.
Hope all goes well for your hatch

Well i don't see mine wobbling anymore but they are chirping and i can hear pecking from inside the shells! Still waiting for that first external pip, any time now!
