I am new to this chicken stuff but want to learn. I have Two chicken I got from Friends and our hen is very scared..she won't leave the coop and the rooster is very protective. What if anything can we do to help and encourage her to feel comfortable?

It takes time. Chickens are creatures of habit and a move is very stressful for them. Maybe she is getting overbred.
Also a pair is too much rooster for a single hen. 10 hens per rooster is better.

x2 on @ChickenCanoe 's comments. It will take her time to get used to her new home. And 1 roo per 1 hen is too much. You don't need a rooster unless you plan on the hen hatching fertile eggs. Without the rooster, she'll still lay eggs for you (they just won't be fertile).

Can you get more girls?

Glad youjoined the Backyard chickens flock. You can't just put new birds in with old ones. Chickens have a very strict "pecking order." It's best if new & old are given a lengthy integration period. They should have a wire barrier dividing the coop AND run, so they can see each other without fighting and bloodshed. Of course both sides should have feed and water dishes available. After some period of time, they will ignore each other. Then you could try combining them with your supervision. You can get more information on the "look but, don't touch," integration procedure by putting it in the search box. Hope your birds will be able to work out their differences peacefully.

Yes we plan on the hen hatching fertile eggs. Thanks for the welcome and all the help
