Advice please... So I have a small flock of four and my smallest RIR is lowest on the pecking order. She does ok and only once have I notice her with an actual injury. But...they won't let her in the roost at night.. I wouldn't mind so much but am worried about her being out alone when it gets cold. Last night I locked #3 and the beta out of the coop and put her in to roost with the alpha Pearl hoping maybe they would bond..Seemed to go well....I noticed Pearl under the little ones wing after they finally settled for the night. Don t know if this will work . Any other ideas guys??? Please..culling is out of the question and they have plenty of room for the four of them to roost. Any ideas would be so appreciated.

A second roost? There should be multiple roost options. What's enough room? Generally a submissive member needs to stay 5 feet away from a grumpy dominant member or they will get pecked.

If your coop isn't at least 5 feet across there can be problems. Also sometimes a dominant member will stand guard at the door so the submissive can't get in. Are your roosts away from the door? Pictures would help.

The roost IS right above the door. I will do some re-arranging asap. That is exactly what is going on. Pearl roosts right above the door. Great advice. Thank you

You can also improvise dividers on the roosts. It will help a lot.... divider (3 of 1).jpg
