My bird mousers were Cuckoo and Blanche. The new pullets are showing interest and have pecked at a few times that I've seen. I'm hoping Bijou provokes more interest and draws more into enjoying "mouse nuggets".

I find it hilarious watching 3 or 4 hens standing quietly around a mouse hole just waiting for the critter to pop it’s head up, I am sure they do not miss! Better mousers than my cat hahaha.

Good to know your poop! :idunno :sick

Now I am all freaked out thinking maybe Flopsy has something like a salmonella illness, or something!

I need to get some injectable antibiotics. It would be easier than trying to shove a pill down her throat, and with her crop not moving no meds would be absorbed into her system.

Need to research this.

I hope Flopsy will get better.
Don’t panic, you are doing what you can for her. The cold isn’t helping matters either

Morning update (day 3 post incident)

Well Daisy is still here, she is interested in eating and drinking, and she’s pooping. Her breathing is better and poopies not so runny.

I dosed her with more aspirin and her sulphatrim. I thought about let’s her stay out with Clyde and the gang, but opted not to. She’s good in the crate so she can stay there until the weekend.

Flopsy:
Her breathing is ok, I am hoping she didn’t aspirate any of the fluid, with her crop stasis giving her antibiotics orally is not an option. And I don’t have any injectable antibiotics. She is also staying in the feedroom. I gave her food and water, and a carrot she was a bit interested in the carrot.

Everyone else is doing ok, Goldie was out and about doing her thing. I am just coasting along waiting for the next catastrophe…..
Seems like this morning's report is good. I'll be interested in the report for the evening shift. Hopefully there is some improvement.

I wonder if she has a blockage further down. If so, I suspect not much you can do about it. :( She is one of the Azures, correct? How old is she now - 2? 2 1/2? she was a young pullet when you got her - and wasn't it the previous Fall ('24????)
I've been thinking the same thing. Something could be stopping everything further down.

She’s pooping, though it’s similar to what Daisy was pooping, runny white and yellow urates. I suspect some sort of cancer likely.

Yes she will be turning 3 this Spring. If this is some sort of reproductive cancer then I will be extremely saddened. I suspect that Twister died of the same thing.

Flopsy the third one, seems to be doing good. She’s just finishing moulting. I wonder if she has more
Araucana traits - she has a topknot - and maybe she is protected from some
of the Leghorn issues?
I'm worried that Aster is headed towards the same kinds of leghorn issues. She has laid all the way through winter. That is telling me there is a lot of leghorn in her.

While the Leghorn genetics is great for the personality - so not good for longevity; I hope she will take some time off.

I know this is maybe something you don't have access to, but would you consider getting her a hormone implant? Maybe once a year in late fall/early winter to give her a 3+ month rest?? I'm not sure it would be enough, as opposed to laying, say 3 or 4 days a week with a couple of 'days off' the hormone train each week.....but maybe it would help her live longer???? I wish I knew more about hormones - like really more, and how to manage them better in high production breeds for a better life span/healthier life. :(
