I need support and advice! I have been so invested into trying to help my little cross beak chick. Changing his food ad feeder to help him. Today I read and watched videos about how trimming their beaks can help. I prepared myself and had corn starch ready. But obviously it didnt end well. He squirmed and I cut too short. There was more blood than I expected. I wrapped him in a towel and kept applying the corn starch until the bleeding seemed to stop. We put him in a separate bin but next the others where they can see and hear each other.whats next? When can I give him ood and water? Will he be okay? Will he hate me forever? I've never felt like a more horrible person. I can't stop crying and shaking.

I had someone from a facebook group help me out. She suggested some tissue at the tip and a stuffie to cuddle with.

Hey there! Do not be so hard on yourself- things like this happen all the time! She squirmed and you accidentally clipped too short. Remember, you were trying to help her-not your fault at all. Have you cleaned her beak out in the water to get all the dried blood off? (I would use gloves to do this) I would put a sock filled with rice (heat it up in the microwave) in there with her. It will keep her some company while she gets better!

Thank you! I love the rice filled sock idea! Ijabe a tissue on there to help keep it from bleeding. He/she had wiped all the corn starch off and there were a few more drops of blood. Can I wait till morning to clean it off? I did end up putting the water in there. Dont want him to go into shock and be dehydrated and lose him!

Thank you so much for the kind words. This is seriously such a terrible feeling!

I would definitely wait for at least morning maybe even a couple of days, no need to rush. You don't want to accidentally hurt him more or reopen the wound. Don't feel bad you tried your best!
