First time hatching....Out of 27 eggs, approx 15 are hatched.

Chirping started at 11pm on Thursday. I haven't opened the incubator yet, but wondering when I should. The first chicks hatched sometime around noon yesterday. I'm running to the feed store to get some chick feed, get everything set up.... I was thinking of calling it at about 5pm tonight. That would be about 42 hrs from when we first heard some chirping.... Any opinions? I don't want to give up on any possibles, but don't want to leave the chicks in there too long either!

Thanks!

Last time i opened the incubator the one chick i thought i was fast enough to help was the last chick that made it out. This time i'm not opening the bator until the last possible moment (not giving up on the others that may come out day 24/25 but trying to shrink wrap as few as possible). The chicks in there will live for 3 days off of their newly absorbed yolk sack... my broody has one with her right now and she hasn't shown it how to get out of the nest yet and it hatched yesterday. It's the first so i think she's waiting for the other 6. After 3 days she'll abandon whatever didn't make it out...

Today is day 21...They went in on the evening of the 10th.

There are a few more with holes started, but there hasn't been any progress on those since last night at about 11pm.

They rest A LOT! i have one that pipped externally late thursday but is still not out of the shell. They pip internally then rest. Then pip a hole and rest. Then zip and rest... It can be very quick but most of the time it is an excruciatingly slow process (for me the watcher at least)!
