I Just hatched my first eggs!! YAY!

How long do I leave them in the incubator??

My Hubby has moved my 2 chickies that hatched into the brooder.. my issue is they haven't dried, but he's right that if the humidity is 70-80% how were they gonna dry? They had been moving slower and less in the incubator.. that's why he did it.

Is this right? Or shall I go put them back in the incubator???

They will dry out slower in the incubator, and yes i have moved them early, but i have found that if i just wait until they dry out on their own or close to dry they are stronger when i put them in the brooder. Sometimes though you just can't wait to hold the little babies!

I leave them in the 'bator for around 24 hours. and yes they dry nicely. taking them out could get them chilled and they could die. I would leave them in there. make sure you have a vent or 2 open for oxygen. and leave them in there.

Ok.. Moved back!! They were drier, but not fluffy... will they still fluff out?? Other big vent hole is opened now as well!!

Hubby was surprised by the quick responses and we BOTH appreciate them Greatly!!

The big thing is that if you have other eggs still hatching you should not be opening the bator. The humidity/temp. drops when the bator is opened and you risk shrink wrapping the hatching chicks if the membrane dries out due to the decreased humidity. Sit on your hands and enjoy the show. Chicks can live off the yolk for a couple of days so you don't need to worry about food/water and even with the humidity they'll dry out just fine. Happy hatching!
