First time hatching edds, and one just hatched with it's eyes closed, pieces of shell stuck to it and it's laying on it's belly. No yolk sac.

Welcome to BYC!

I have never hatched eggs before but I know enough about hatching them. Usually they don't open their eyes till maybe a day after hatching. You can carefully take off the pieces of shell if they are stuck to the chick if you want. I think the chickens will be alright, though!

The chicks will be quite tired after hatching, so if they don't move around or open their eyes much, that's totally normal. I believe they will have absorbed the yolk sac already inside the egg prior to hatching out....chickens aren't like cockatiels whom hatch out with a nutrient sac still attatched...chickens hatch out ready for the world pretty much and will be ready to eat chick food within about 48 hours of hatching.....post us some pics of your little cuties!

Oh thank you so much, I'm so relieved and it's doing fine now. Four more have hatched so far. It's so hard not worrying when it's your first time. Although; I think I'll worry just as much with everyone.

You got this! I was SO stressed out when I hatched my first eggs, but once they were out, the anxiety went away!
