I rescued four battery warrens 2 weeks ago im afraid one did not cope from the start and died after week I tried everything but couldnt save poor little Nora. On sunday I rescued a new battery hen, a cookoo Maran. The other 3 are being so horrible to her I am scared to leave them all on there own with her any advice would be amazing. Many thanks in advance.

I'm so glad you gave these hens another chance! They're lucky to have you.

As for how to introduce them, I would suggest a separate pen for the maran, where she can see and hear the others but they can't beat her up. They should eventually come around and then can be reintroduced. There is a lot of good information on introductions on this site and other sites.

Hope this helps!

Best of luck to you!

Thanks so much for replying. I really love them! The three warrens are getting really tame now :) Mavis is now in a large dog crate in the middle of the pen where they can see her but not hurt her :)

I had a silkie named Mavis.

Here she is, sitting on my hand. She couldn't go out with the other chickens because another chicken land on her when she was young and caused brain damage to her. She lived in the basement because of this.

Welcome to Backyard chickens, your three look like they have blossomed under your care. Chickens take pecking order very seriously and putting a new one in the mix gets them stirred up. Gita Books has explained how to integrate Mavis without bloodshed.
